14U Coaches Report

It was a very long weekend with all the games and unknown weather issues, but we got it in.  We started our day on Saturday May 17th, 2014 at 1 pm at Hurley Middle School in Seekonk.  We played South County Storm out of Somerset Mass.  The girls played very well and we run ruled them in a 9-1 win.  We then remained on the same field waiting for our opponent to arrive for a 2:40pm start.  We played R.I. Rampage White and run ruled them 17-1.  Tori Young pitched that game and only needed to throw 26 pitches (pitched Great!!).  We received the Number 2 seed for Sunday Bracket because we gave up 2 runs and R.I. Rampage Black gave up no runs.  We started our day on Sunday at Cole Street Field 1 for a 10 am start against Enfield Extreme CT.  We ended this game in 3 innings with a 18-0 win with every girl in the line up getting a hit.  Once again Tori Young shut it down and our defense was outstanding.  Our next game was in the semi-finals against New England Impact.  Once again we ended the game in 3 innings with a 18-0 win.  We put up six runs in the first inning on Home Runs by Molly Morales and Keara Pedroso.  Jess Evans pitched the first two innings and Tori Young came in to close it out in the third.  The Championship game started at 4 pm against an undefeated team this year in R.I. Rampage Black.  They had a very good pitcher that held us at bay for the first 6 innings.  With the score tied 0-0 in the top of the 7th Hayley Felix led off and was hit by a pitch.  Mackenzie Ricci then laid down a perfect bunt and beat it out forcing Hayley to make it to third and Mackenzie took second.  With one out and runners on second and third Riley Riendeau hit a hard shot to short and Hayley slid into home on the throw to plate a run.  The ball bounced away from the catcher and heads up base running by Mackenzie took home all the way from second.  We went ahead 2-0 and Jess Evens pitched a complete game shutout closing the door in the bottom of the seventh with a 1,2,3, inning.  In all we scored 64 runs and gave up 2 in the Tournament.  More impressive the team did not give up a run on Sunday while scoring 38 runs and not committing one error on Sunday.  This was a complete team effort as every girl on this team made this happen.  I am very proud of the girls and how they persevered in the championship game as they had not been challenged all weekend.
